Hello,

I have a Gigabyte motherboard. I have MS Flight Simulator X I want to install. I want to put MS Windows 8.1 64 bit OS on.

As I understand. I need UEFI. I understand my 78LMT-S2P has Hybrid EFI. I have heard less than flattering things about Hybrid EFI.

Would you say Hybrid EFI would work OK. Would you explain some of the pitfalls I should look out for if I stay with the Hybrid EFI.

Thanks,

Wayne

Hi Grandmaster,

Thanks. As I understood, in order to run Windows 8.1-64 bit you need to have the HDD to GPT. In order to get the HDD to GPT you need UEFI, or EFI. I may have misunderstood what I read. I may be wrong that it is the other way around Am I missing something ?? I do know UEFI and EFI is an alternate type of BIOS, it is just for some reason a 64 bit OS needs those things ??

Thanks again. I go to see my eye Doctor the beginning of the month. It appears my glasses are not working as well as they should. 🙂

I thank you again. It appears you are more technically intelligent I am. I will accept your advice gratefully.

At least my data is backed up and is safe.

As CountMike wrote - no problem with legacy settings. I used hybrid EFI and ran into problems until I figured that nVidia graphics card (970GTX) was making problems.
When you turn hybrid EFI on, GPU turns on its EFI BIOS instead of legacy (it has both) and there is no way to boot into Widnows with such setup as motherboard hybrid EFI is crippled and lack support for GPUs. I had previous Windows installation done with AMD card which has physical switch for BIOS.
Only thing that worked was Windows re-installation.
