got those 2 for a new rig and it seems they are not compatible? Can i do anything about it or do I have to change my motherboard?

You will need a new motherboard. 100 and 200 series boards will not work with anything past 7th generation. The 9100f is 9th generation so it will not work.

You will need either a Z390 or B365 motherboard to work out of the box. Older 300 series can work if you ensure they have an updated bios.

Heres a good option.

The one he has is not chipset compatible, so it will not work whatsoever.
Hence why I said this:
100 and 200 series boards will not work with anything past 7th generation. The 9100f is 9th generation so it will not work.

Or a Z370. would also work.
Z370 boards would also need a bios update. Z390 and Z365 are the only 9th gen out of the box boards. Even then there are extra bios updates to get CPUs like the 9100f and 9900ks to work.

An H310M is the cheapest chipset that can support an i3 9100F. But heres the catch. It doesnt support 9th gen out of the box. You need to have the BIOS updated using an 8th gen proc so it will support the 9th gen goodies.

Recommended the 9100F to a friend, and he ordered one that came without a cooler.
