It has a 6.8 score in CPUboss. But is it slow compared to other cpus? it is 1.6GHz and up to 2.6GHz. Is it too slow for daily use of sketchup, autocad (2D only, very light use only), video editing, adobe photoshop, and web browsing? I will not use these all at once. So would this CPU satisfy this applications? Let's say it's partnered with nvidia GT 820m. Thanks.

Well, the i5-4200u is an notebook processor. Its meant to be used at ultra-low voltages. Whether or not it is a valid choice for you depends on what it is being used in. Are you considering buying a notebook that contains this processor? Or buying it as a component for a custom build?

I think that it would do the job, just not very well and not at the performance level you would like it to. I would recommend finding another laptop with an i7 processor and a dedicated GPU.

Nah, got some low budget. as long as it would not struggle or push the laptop too much, it'll be fine. They've got score not too bad, though not too good. Anyways, thanks for some tips.

Yeah that dedicated GPU will definitely help. What's your price range?

800 USD, asus X450's the best I can see within that budget, some much cheaper below 600 USD with i3 4th gen cpus can't make me smile. Yet lenovo g410 for 536 USD can give me the 2.5 GHz i5-4200m but also an integrated gpu. So im really stuck between the two, would the best decision be maximizing my budget to slower cpu with fast gpu or a cheaper with fast cpu but integrated gpu, you see, I can't give my trust to intel hd 4600 easily, as so as to 1.6 Ghz i5-4200u.

Are you open to buying used on eBay? We can find you a lot more performance at the sacrifice of condition and battery life.

Core i7, Nvidia 745M with 2GB buffer. Will perform MUCH better. That's an awesome price for it, I would just buyitnow. The CPU is over twice as powerful and the screen is a nice Full HD resolution and it will blow away anything i5 and the graphics destroy the 820m.

Hope that helps!

No, im from PH, place of crappy and diseased machines. -_- International shipping to us isn't possible. I have several websites to browse from including online resellers.

Ah, too bad... what websites do you use?

This will be my last reply for a while. It's late here in the U.S. and I have work to do.

WIll be back on as soon as I can tommorow!

You see, here in the philippines, people offer machines with very high prices in exchange for crappy performance and morbid quality, they choose those machines to force us on giving them up the money just to fulfill our need for those machines, well, hell yeah, im not buying their tactics, there's acer, asus, lenovo and dozens of other manufacturers in the mall that can give me the right machine, but until now, Im having difficulty choosing the correct one. Machines I see online in other countries only makes me sad for I can't have those real performing computers for a reasonable price. All I can do is browse through online resellers page and some manufaturer websites located here at PH. Luckily at least, I found two which is reasonable, a bit. I'll take look at those links.

Wait... can you buy something on eBay (from U.S.) that offers international shipping? That might be our best route here.

Yeah. that's the same one from earlier :) . The graphics are not much better than Intel Integrated, and once again, the CPU is pretty basic. You should probably aim for at least a higher model i5, and GT 740m or so.

Let me take a look around and do some things and I'll get back to you in a couple hours or so.

What about an i7-4500u? Here's the specs
Acer Aspire V5-573PG-9160 Touch
i7-4500u 1.8GHz-3.0GHz
nvidia GT 750m 4GB GDDR5
8 GB RAM DDR3L
1 TB HDD SATA 5400rpm
no optical drive, battery up to 6.5 hours
----------------------------
What do you think of i7-4500u?

Take your time, thanks! :bounce:

The GPU, the GT 750M, is around 2 times better, but the CPU looks like just a slightly higher clocked version of the i5-4200u.

What is the price difference? That's really the determining factor here.

This computer undercuts your price range a bit and offers a pretty capable GPU (pretty unbeatable at the price) and a quad-core CPU. The CPU is not as good as an Intel, (it's an AMD APU), but given that it's a quad core it may handle some tasks better.

If your price range can handle a computer with a GeForce 740M, (Looks like over 35000 of your Pesos) that would be better, but for the price you should consider this one ^.

You can compare the two CPUs here: http://cpuboss.com/cpus/Intel-Core-i5-4200U-vs-AMD-A8-5557M (translate it). The CPU is quite inferior, but should do okay on your tasks. For the price the GPU is unbeatable.

I was taking a look at the Lenovo G410 and it's CPU and graphics. Believe it or not, the Intel HD 4600 nearly matches the Nvidia 820M. That $536 computer's CPU will beat all the $800+ computer's CPUs we have been talking about.

Video editing uses CPU, so it will be very fast on the G410. The GPU is very respectable for your use cases, my brother just used some Intel HD 2000 graphics (absolutely TERRIBLE with gaming) and did some 2D CAD just fine. Intel has improved DRASTICALLY since then, so I think the G410 should be the best option for you, especially at the price.

At least in the U.S., it is on a "weekly deal" right now for over $200 off. If this is the same case for you, I think you should jump on it!

Hope that helps!

Yeah, I was viewing pages about each dedicated GPU and they seem to differ not that much for the price. The acer v5 laptop with an i7-4500u and 750m gpu is over 46,000 pesos, twice the price of the G410. While the the i5 outperforms an i7-4500u. My current laptop uses celeron 530@1.7Ghz and an intel GMA x3100 w/ 252mb, I used autocad for 2 years with acad 2014, while my father used it previously for 3 years with older acad, it's still alive running windows 8.1 with 1GB or ram. Lenovo G410 is only 23,500 pesos while asus x450 is over 34,000, for the GPU difference, the price isn't reasonable. If they not differ that much, I'll go with Lenovo and add an additional 4GB RAM. What do you think of the quality of that Lenovo laptop? The design?

Hey, you helped me a lot, I really appreciate your help! 😀 Have a nice day bro :bounce:

So the Lenovo G410 is really better in cpu and slightly lower but still desirable gpu right? I should know the quality of lenovo laptops right?

Yes. It should do very well with a fast CPU, and still respectable graphics.

Especially at the low price you mentioned for it, it is by far your best option.

It looks like the G410 is one of those customizable computers that you can order it exactly how you want. Make sure you get the model and processor you want, because maybe the 23,500 pesos is just a base Celeron model.

Just make very sure you are getting exactly what you want, with the i5-3xxxM.

You're welcome!
