Is I5-4690k still a good choice for Gaming?

Hello, i am looking to upgrade my CPU, i can get i5 4660k for 231$, i want to ask you guys if its still good cpu, and if you could suggest me mobo in the 100$+- price range.

What do you have now, socket and CPU? 4690 is good, but we need to know where you are coming from.

i have old athlon II X4 630 2.80 ghz and some ghetto motherboard, i just dont want to pay so much money and then having it to replace it in 2 years, i have also hd 7770(yes i know its bad)

It's fantastic for gaming. Unless you're using AMD Mantle you're not gonna peg your CPU. Look at the CPU charts for games - they're basically all GPU limited.

Take the $230 and put it towards an SSD or to save up for a new graphics card.

Yes, the i5-4690k is an excellent choice. I find the i7 processors are unnecessary and the performance doesn't justify the price. It's a quad-core, which is now becoming the standard and it is unlocked. This means you can squeeze more performance out of it for free. The motherboard I listed is compatible and allows overclocking.
