[SOLVED] Is i5 9400f from G4560 a worthy upgrade?

Hey i am thinking of upgrading my G4560 and get i59400F instead and i am wondering how much improvement in fps i will get? My GPU is GTX 1050 TI

Yes it is a big upgrade, but it will require a new motherboard. Dual core gaming is essentially dead.

While your G4560 only has two cores, it does have 4 threads.
If your games are cpu limited, then a cpu upgrade is in order.
What is the make/model of your motherboard?

OTOH, if you play fast action games, you might better benefit from a stronger graphics card.
Try this test:
Run YOUR games, but lower your resolution and eye candy.
If your FPS increases, it indicates that your cpu is strong enough to drive a better graphics configuration.
If your FPS stays the same, you are likely more cpu limited.

What is the make/model of your psu?
If you decide that a graphics card upgrade is in order, you may need a stronger psu.

CPU is ~20% faster on single core, around twice as fast on multi core.
IF you run games that are cpu intensive, like civilization V you will see full gains (~30% more FPS, half the time of CPU turn).
with strong gpu it might even double the performance. in case of 1050 TI, I would expect 30% upgrade in most titles depending on how old title was, and how hard it was on the CPU.

When playing the outer worlds i get like 40-50 fps but when lowering resolution to 1600x900 from 1920x1080 i only gain around 5-10fps. What is eye candy by the way? This is my motherboard https://www.asrock.com/mb/Intel/H110M-HDV/

There is a newer version of the lga1151 socket. Same number of pins, but with added function needed for 9th gen processors.

Your G4560 has 4 threads and a passmark rating of 4864. That is when you game can fully use all 4 threads.
The single thread rating is 1987. Actually quite decent for many games.
On the support list, the strongest upgrade is a i7-7700K
It has 8 threads and a rating of 11995/2581.
A i7-7700K sells for about $250 on ebay.

That board only supports 6th and 7th gen, the 9400f is 9th gen and is only supported on the 300 series boards. On the link you posted click support then cpu support list to see the list of cpus that board supports(you'll notice the 8th and 9th gen cpus are not on it).

IMHO the Ryzen is the better of the 2, but you'll also likely need new ram aswell. You are likely running ddr4 2133 in your current board and that will hinder a Ryzen CPU, with Ryzen you want faster ram.

actually i am using corsair vengeance LPX 2x4gb 2666mhz

only reason i got 2666mhz was because they were selling for same price as 2400mhz my motherboard only supports 2400mhz

is 2666mhz good or not for ryzen

2666 will work, for now, and you can get faster later on. You can improve your performance, even with slower ram, to get closer to the performance of having faster ram, apparently.

That's a pretty solid build. The psu you selected is overkill, but it's a good unit. You could probably go with a 650 and save some money. You may also want to consider selling your old parts, it may pay for that ram upgrade. You can grab a 2x8 kit of 3200 for around 65-70 bucks currently.

I would not recommend B450. Bios updates, to support Ryzen 3000, have been a bit hit and miss, on stability.

3600 is 6 cores, but 12 threads....; if at all feasible, get it instead.
