I'm buying a laptop mostly for gaming and general use - internet browsing, Skype, watching videos etc, but no audio or video editing.
Playing games such as:
Overwatch
PUBG
Fortnite
Counter Strike
I'm looking at specs:
16GB ram
GTX 1060
128 SSD
500 GB HD
17" screen
i5-8300h
However am wondering if I should go for an I7 and change something else, RAM or GPU? I find "I7-8750h" on builds a lot and is an option on the above manual build.
Looking at I7 vs I5 comparison, http://cpu.userbenchmark.com/Compare/Intel-Core-i7-8750H-vs-Intel-Core-i5-8300H/m470418vsm425634
There's not a lot of difference overall. I would have thought 6 cores and 12 threads (I7) instead of 4 cores and 8 threads (I5) would have returned a much greater difference than it shows. And not sure if there'd be more of a difference in real world usage (gaming mostly of course)?
But more importantly, the 1050TI vs 1060 comparison is nearly 60% difference.

Possible compromises (that make notable difference in price and performance):
GTX 1050 TI OR 1060
i5-8300h OR i7-8750h
16gb Ram OR 8gb
I've already pushed the budget so please understand it's not a case of "just a bit extra" and get the I7 as well. I could if it's "really" worth it but I'd prefer to not push the budget again. I'm just not sure which of the above is really the most important to not compromise on, or if I should "really" consider pushing the budget for that I7.
I'm swaying to the decision that the I5 is more than enough for the games (and all other usage) with the GPU factored in, whereas the 1050TI vs 1060 is a huge difference. But this is an important decision as it has to last 3 or 4 years really.
So eg how much better is that I7 vs the I5. Is having the 1060 instead of 1050TI better than going for the I7? Or should I "really" push that budget and get the I7r?
Thank you.
