Is Intel Core i5 4460 still good for full hd or 2k gaming in 2017?

Hello,
I own a Intel Core i5 4460 with gigabyte h81-ms-s1. I purchased this 1year back.

I have not been doing gaming after graduation. Therefore, didn't purchase GPU. Now I am thinking to start gaming again for games like Witcher, GTA, Battlefield, NFS.

I have budget constraint, so just looking to get the GPU (Nvidia 1070) for future proof.

So wanna know if Corei5 4460 good enough in 2017. I currently own a 1080p monitor and have ordered for dell 2k monitor as I got good discount.

In coming 6-7 months I will go for i5-7th generation. But for time being looking for just GPU that can play these games @2k if not then 1080p @60hz.

So is Intel Core i5 4460 good for gaming in 2017?

Solution
This may sound stupid but the i5 4460 and gtx 1070 would make more sense at 1440p, this is because at 1080p the gpu is too fast for the i5 to keep up with, while at 1440p the 1070 gets a much harder time rendering those pixels. :)

Not saying that at 1080p you wont get good results it's just at 1440p the i5 and 1070 balance eachother better :)
The 1070 should be perfect with the i5 4460. According to another forum post, It should not bottleneck at all so you are safe. If you really wanna make sure look for some gtx 1070 benchmarks in 2k and see if that will be enough for you. Best luck to your build .~.

Edit: The i5 4460 won't bottleneck the 1070 so you should be safe for gaming in 2017

The 1070 is perfectly matched for 1440p. I am currently playing BF1, The Witcher 3 and GTA V with a i5 4690K and a 1070. My CPU usage is sitting between 70-85% in game. That's because at 1440p the CPU doesn't handle as many frames per second from the GPU as it would at 1080p. So the type of CPU would be less of a factor. Just as long as its a quad core clocked at a decent speed. Then there will be no problem. Your i5 4460 should be perfect if you only intend to use it for gaming.

my stepson is running an i3 on the same spec board on a 650gtx ti on 8gig of ram & playing new released games & doing most things that it shouldn't no issues haswells are a great under rated build i have 2 set ups running i3s for my stepsons half gaming streaming machines no issues even gives the hight end skylake kaby lake guys a run for their $ online your i5 is great processor stick with it if you need to give it a bit more ram for good measure

I am a programmer and developer. And looking to play games currently @1080p. My 1080p monitor is not working good. But looking at many forums, people said 2k dell u2515h not great for gaming. So might shift 2k to my bro's office ( graphic design) and I might look for some really good 1080p monitor primarily for programming and then do some really good gaming

Not stupid at all mate :) I experienced the exact same thing when I went from 1080p to 1440p with my i5 4690K and 1070. It makes perfect sense.

Maybe also take a look at Dell's P2416D. Its a 24" 1440p 60Hz screen. I have the exact same model and so far I am loving it. The step up from 1080p to 1440p is something you have to see to believe. You wont regret it at all.

I have the same exact setup. i5 4460, gtx 1070 g1 windforce, 8 gigs of corsair ram. If you have this gpu, you definitely wanna game on ultra settings, specially if you are playing 1080 and 144hz monitor. However, the cpu struggles biiiiig time in open world games. For example, if you play rise of tomb raider, when you are in the open world you get hella annoying stutter and sometime fps drops to 50s, then once you enter a cave or so you will see the fps jumps back to the sweet 90s or 100s. Besides, in many times you will see the gpu running on 80% cuz the processor is maxed out. Also there is one very weird thing, sometimes the processor will run only on 50% and the gpu will stuck below it at 40%, Ive seen this in girewatch. I didn't buy this gpu, my brother gave to me, I only play csgo. Sometimes i play few games here or there. So the processor runs fine for me.
