So im looking to buy a laptop and the ASUS Zenbook UX305FA-USM1 seems pretty nice but i noticed it has an Intel Core M-5Y10 CPU. Im not too familiar with Laptop CPU's and have never seen the M series chipset. Im wondering if it would be good for a student.. I will be basically doing what a university student needs to do on a laptop and some movies only, not much gaming (if anything, just league or csgo). Would this cpu work well?

Solution

The Broadwell-based Core M processors like the M-5Y10 only turbo boost on a single core. That is, when using both cores, the max clock speed is 800 MHz. If only a single core is being used, it can turbo up to 2 GHz.

If you really want an ultra-low power processor like a Core M, I'd suggest waiting for the Skylake ones to come out. From the specs I've seen, those will turbo boost when using both cores. That should make their performance much more competitive with the i3 and even mobile i5.
For a student its good for watching videos and word processing. Keep in mind its clocked at 800Mhz. No im not making that up it turbos to 2ghz if needed. I dont think it will be good enough for CS:GO or league.

Solution
My laptop has a i3-CPU M380 @2.53GHz.
It's okay for Minecraft, or other small games. Not for heavy, it sucks.
I'm playing a heavy game, 30/40 fps with fps drop to 20 fps.
On minecraft you'll get standard 60fps, or you put the Max Framerate to unlimited fps will go to 100/290 fps.

13.3" laptops are typically more expensive than other laptop sizes because they generally provide a lot of portability and when using a Core i3 or i5 a lot performance as well. They typically also have 1080p (or higher) resolution screens as well which adds to the cost.

The ASUS Zenbook UX305FA is actually the least expensive 13.3" Windows laptop that I am aware of.
