Is Intel Duo E8500 better than the E2180 ?

I have the e2180 in an old system with ga-945gcm-s2l mobo and i want to upgrade to get better performance.

i am gonna get the e8500 then for 11 bucks. I want itl for low end gaming so its probably ok , right? for game like league of legends , minecraft etc..

The E8500 is better in the same way 8% is better then 5%. Compared to the 5%, 8% is almost double the improvement; but compaired to a 2017 computer the 8% is still grossly insufficient.

Should be fine. You will need F6 bios or later to support the new cpu.

well the system runs windows xp so I guess i will be fine. I wont use it as main system anyway. Its just a project for me to see if old systems can run games decent

Well, more than a full GHz to start with (2 GHz vs 3.16 GHz) and way more than a GHz once they are overclocked (around 3.0-3.2 GHz vs 3.8-4.0+ GHz). Besides that around 6% performance improvement perclock by the slightly improved architecture on the 45 nm chip.
The E8500 is clearly better.

If it'S cheap, sure grab it. But don't spend to much. It's still an older platform, and even if I still like the LGA775 platform, its basically obsolete nowadays. For gaming there are cheaper and more efficient chips and for multi media/HTPC/low performance office/web browsing aswell.
