About to build a new system and was just wondering what sought of difference will upgrading from a FX-6100 @4.0ghz to a i5 4690k. I'm keeping my 680gtx thats in my sig, slightly faster ram and a ssd, will my FPS go up or will it be more consistent and not drop as bad. I was going to get a FX-8350 but I'm getting a Bitfenix prodigy so I'm restricted to intel because intel based boards are the only decent boards that will fit.

You will definitely see an improvement, depending on the game it can vary from slight to quite high. And you will certainly have a better consistency in framerates and not so many drops. Make sure you get a proper cooler for this CPU!

Others on here have reported significant gains with a similar upgrade :)

I will be using my 240mm coolermaster seidon aio, the 680 and cooler is all that I'm reusing from the old machine. Gonna smash a 660 2gb and a ssd into the AMD and give it to my missus and kids to use instead of the Pentium 4 with HD6670. What sought of overclocks would I be looking at with my water cooler? oh and thanks guys.

Don't know about OC on the i5, but LOL at your missus going from a P4 to a 6100+SSD, it's gonna feel faster than hot snot for her

My missus does have a laptop with some sought of i3 in it with HD3000 graphics, she just wants to game properly and is over consoles. It took me long enough to convince her PC gaming was the way. I can't believe it was Sims 3 that changed her mind. She does like Shooting games, she plays Halo with me and games like Skyrim which she knows is better on PC.

I have a P4 at home, it's propping up my wobbly dining table. No joke.
