Is it a good time to upgrade my 3000+ to a 4400+ dual core?

well I already sold my 3000+ , and I have been using a single 80gig
sata drive , so now looking to buy new cpu. I am using a 478 2,4ghz
celeron at the mo , and it locks up quite a bit when I multi-task
however I'm sure my 3000+ would've done similar.....
not sure if I saw raid0/1 "how to " on this site , could u give a quick tut?
been looking around seems the extra 512kb cache on the x2 4400+
won't help me much unless using 64 bit ..? is this true ?

wow, where do you guys get this stuff?

Raid0 does almost nothing for performance. If anything, the user will benefit from increased write speeds only... NOT READ SPEEDS. 1 raptor is a better benefit without the extra waste just to get another to RAID0 it.

Now, since now it is only logical to get one drive, why not get a huge 500 gb drive with read/write/seek times that of the raptors, and that run cooler and quieter as well. Or you can do the most logical thing, and get a 3800+ X2 and overclock it to 2.5-2.7 like everyone else does on stock cooling, giving you a benefit in every area.

ty for the advice then ;-))
since the x2 3800+ is about us$200 cheaper than the 4400+ !
btw how does it compare to the pentuimD 830 3ghz ?

Because 500GB drives dont run at 10,000RPM. Thats the entire point. And the reason you want two, is because lots of people need more space then 74GB/36GB. I have 232GB of music/videos on my current hard drive, and I need another. Lots of people would get two 74GB WD Raptors, RAID0 them, and if you needed more room, just get an external 250GB hard drive.

is there any great advantage between getting a hard drive with 8mb buffer or 16mb buffer?

also, regarding o/c of 3800x2, you still only have 512kb of cache.
