Hello i am trying to findout where to put my pc at and my desk has no space but i can put it on carpet but i feel like i need a mat under the pc so i am thinking if i use a computer chair mat to put under it would it be ok or should i go to a local hardware store and get a piece of wood to put under?

Solution

Case itself doesn't, but your PSU does. This should suffice though, as long as you...

The only issue i have with it is later in time would the plastic be affected by the heat from the exhaust fans or is it just not likely? and if i am very weary of the mat then i should just get piece of wood to put over the carpet it is on so it wont have any issues :)

Do you have any fans (particularly intake fans) on the bottom of your case? If not, you can safely put the computer on carpet, it's fine. Even with an intake fan, as long as there's good clearance between the base of the PC and the carpet, AND it's a relatively flat carpet (i.e., the carpet isn't long enough to get tangled in any fans), you're fine running it on the floor on carpet.

The only two things you need to worry about is something getting tangled in a fan, or suffocating a fan from insufficient airflow.

The case i have is fractal design r5 and i havent tampered with the case fans and the bottom of the case has no fans on it

Case itself doesn't, but your PSU does. This should suffice though, as long as you regularly clean the pull-out filter at the bottom of case. If you have very heavy duty machine and PSU though, I'd rather put it on a wooden block.

The only downside from having a computer on the floor is dust... Dust likes to settle, and the floor is far dustier than up on a desk, so you may find your going to have to clean dust out more frequently.

Actually not, this case is designed to have positive air pressure and all intakes have easily cleanable filters (you just pull it out or open the front door). I have r3 version of this on floor and just need to clean the filters once in 2-3 months, the inside is clean. It's quite big and heavy case, you wouldn't want it on your desk unless it's a really big one.
