Is it bad for Portable HD to be connected 24/7?

Hello,
My Internal HDD (500 GB) is almost Full and I am planing to buy a Portable HD (This one http://www.ryanscomputers.com/index.php/mainhome/item_Details/385) but I am not sure about the risk.


My PC is always 24/7 Running and I rarely turn it off.
Is it bad for Portable HD to be connected 24/7?

Your portable hard drive will be fine as most of them go into standby mode (drive stops spinning) after a period of not being used. In any case, they are "hot pluggable" devices which means you can unplug them from the host PC when they are not required without having to shut down, and just plug it back in when you need it.
