it really depends on the age of the card. newer drivers usually only deliver for the current and immediate previous generation. I have an HD 7950, my card is not addressed in current drivers so aside from the software that comes with the driver I get NO gain from newer drivers. if your card falls into the driver support window, yes use the current driver.
Is it bad to game on old gpu drivers? I mean does it hurt The gpu to game on old drivers
Maybe. Physically speaking it usually doesn't matter. When FPS is key a driver can greatly affect the outcome. There may be a security risk that a driver update applies. Maybe it draws to much power at idle. Maybe there's a bug in Forza that it addresses. Drivers have an explanation called release notes or something to that effect. It will tell the consumer what changes were made. I can loook to the newest Nvidia driver's notes and see 'This driver improves the GeForce RTX 20 Series cards' power management when idle'.That's just one change. I can also go to Nvidia and look to Beta or older drivers because a certain version may work best for me but not for you. Blindly updating can sometimes be worse than not updating and vice versa. You just have to be informed.
newer drivers usually offer optimizations (usually resulting in better performance) and support to new GPUs. What's the reason of not using the newest driver? gtx 1060 support the latest drivers.
