Is it better for just a SSD or both SSD and HDD?

I'm currently planning on building a really good PC, mainly for gaming, but some work. What I want to know is whether or not I should just add SSD, or one of those along with a HDD. Money is no object, thought I should say that since I've heard that SSD's are expensive. I'll put my build below. Also, if you think I should do HDD and SSD, is Intel Optane worth it?

That depends completely on your budget and space needs.

Per GB, yes, they are more expensive than an HDD.
1TB HDD = $50
1TB SATA III SSD = $200
1TB NVMe SSD = $300

My system is SSD only, 6 drives of various sizes and designated uses.
Of course, the large space suckers like movies and music live on a 12TB NAS box.


The cool thing about drives is that you can add new ones easily, as your space needs increase.

If money is no object, go for SSD's. But $ for data, mech drive is still the way to go.
Ive got all mech drives (except for boot) in my home server, but my desktop (mainly for gaming/streaming) has 3x 250GB SSD's - I cant use a system that has a mech boot drive anymore 😀

As above, since SSD is definitely the way to go for the system drive. The drives for data storage usually are hard drives just because they are cheaper. But since the 1 TB SSD price is down to around $160, it is less of an impact on the wallet.

It is still more expensive for large capacity SSD than HDD, but you can make the argument now.
