[SOLVED] Is it fairly possible that AMD's next gen flagship 7nm CPU might perform a bit worse than the 14nm 9900k in gaming?

I am debating what I should do. AMD's next gen 7nm CPU's are coming soon but I am wondering should I wait for the Ryzen 3700X (or whatever the name will be) or buy a 9900k now.

Price is not the issue, I just want the best performance. But is it plausible that AMD's next gen FLAGSHIP mainstream 7nm CPU coming out in 2019 might perform worse than the 14nm Intel 9900k CPU today in 2018?

Solution
Most likely still slower due to slower clock speed but will lessen the gap between a 9900k and a 2700x. A 9700k is as good or better than a 9900k in gaming and, will not have the thermal issues. I wouldn't mess with a 9900k.
It's a balance. 7 years ago, Dual core high frequency CPUs were the king of gaming. Now any AMD or Intel six core CPU or higher is great for gaming.

Game developers are now going multi core so much that frequency doesn't matter as much. But of course, it still makes a difference, enough of a difference that you will notice a fps difference for sure.
