Is it gonna work this way?

Hello, I'll get a new video card (gtx 970 twinturbo edition) and it has 5 outputs: 3 display ports, 1 dual link DVI-I and one hdmi. I also have my monitor which has one VGA (D-Sub) output. The GTX 750Ti worked perfectly with the monitor using a VGA cable, however I'm not sure whether a DVI-I to VGA adapter attached to the VGA cable would do its job with the 970. I went to a shop and the assistant said it won't work this way, he also told me to buy a newer monitor and use a hdmi cable instead. I'm a bit confused now about it. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks in advance.

May not work due to newer cards are digital only. It takes a digital to analogy converter for vga to work on newer cards.

The converters are costly. You may be better off buying a cheap monitor. If you have a motherboard with 2 16x pcie slots set up the 4th with the old 750ti for web browsing.
