Is it imp to have atleast 8GB RAM in Win7 64 bit

I plan to play video games (mostly new) on my i5 3470 with Windows 7 64bit Ultimate. I want to know do i really need 8GB ram or 4gb will also work just fine. My system spec are my signature below. I use Linux Ubuntu for all the work. Windows only for gaming.

If you play games that take up 2-2.5 gigs of ram and you don't want a stuttering mess, yes, it is required to have 8 gigs.

one of my friend suggested for 2 4GB setup. And one more question.. Will i see any noticable speedup with 64bit OS particularly in games or is it just useful for servers and other jobs??

Your CPU has double the memory bandwidth with 2 x 4 GB dimms compared to 1 x 8 GB dimm, but the real world effect his has on games is small.

A 32-bit OS is limited to 32-bit programs and 4 GB of system memory.
A 64-bit OS can run 32-bit or 64-bit programs and the RAM limitation is much higher.
Some games require a 64-bit OS and will not run on a 32-bit OS.
