I can run Far Cry 4 with all the settings up but Batman Arkham Knight will not allow me to use any NVIDIA Game work settings at all. So since NVIDIA is going to be controlling almost every good game coming out from now on should i make the switch to the green team? I already asked about should i CF another 290 or get a 980 so i am defiantly stuck on getting the EVGA GTX 980 hydro watercooler if NVIDIA is controlling all these games from here on out. I know AMD is dead but from how cheap and good performing some of their cards are i just love the red team due to that.

Solution
AMD video cards run almost all games nicely.
Nvidia video cards run almost all games nicely.

Some games run better on the other companies cards. Its always been that way, and probably always will be.

yea but NO games run better on AMD nowadays. Atleast no AAA popular games do.

I hope so but i highly doubt it until i see it. It would not suprice me if AMD payed them off to tell people that DirectX12 will run AMD cards like Gods so people will go out and Buy AMD cards thinking they will kill NVIDIA only to see that Direct X12 sucks for AMD like all the other DirextX 🙁 I hope not

yea true. AMD may be 70% cheaper and to me they were a better deal but now that NVIDIA is buying every possible game title and putting their imaginary NVIDIA game works which is jsut NVIDIA's way of saying " Hey if your card is not NVIDIA we will not allow you to play this game with these settings even though your AMD card can run it easily" I hate it. AMD puts all of their money in the console like which is why i think AMD is even still alive. If not for console AMD would be dead because AMD makes more cash in a day than NVIDIA makes in months with their Nintendo, Xbox, and Playstation sales.

You are dead wrong. As I said, and I do not use words loosely, there are AMD optimized games, and there are Nvidia optimized games. And even those games work well on the other companies cards. Sometimes it takes the other company a week to get the updates out to make it that way, but they do it.

How is an AMD card going to work good with a game that has most graphical settings "LOCKED" and is impossible to use even if your AMD card can run it? And only an NVIDIA card can run it? On BM Arkham Knight no AMD card is allowed to use any NVIDIA settings no matter what even if your card can handle it 100% for example.

Dont forget that DirectX 12 is based on Mantel, and it was AMD that went and worked with Microsoft on getting DirectX 12 implemented. From the one tech demo that has come from a AAA game maker so far, AMD was ahead of Nvidia. And Nvidia raised a real stink about it, which the various sites quickly debunked.

So its going to be an even playing field again. You guys make it sound like Nvidia is way ahead. They are not. They were some ahead on DX11. CEO Rory did not help any by pretty much just giving up. But he is gone now. CEO Lisa Su intends to compete fiercely with Nvidia and Intel.

I have owned many cards from both companies. Right now, I have a GTX 770 in my system. In my opinion, when I built this box in May 2014, it was the best value for the money. Next year, both AMD and Nvidia will have all new 16nm cards out with HBM v2 memory. It will be a new race. It will be fun figuring out who will get my money late next year.

When will AMD stop rebranding their cards? I know they came out with the Fury X which is garbage but when will they come out with a new line of cards or will they even do that? And when will 16nm cards be out and will that make them better?

I will say though, again, as I have in the past it really depends on the games you play. Many of the triple A games like farcry, batman, bioshock and shadow of mordor...etc. etc. all use nvidia phsix and other nvidia only things, so if that is important to YOU, as it was for me, then Nvidia is a no brainer.

Is there a way to unlock them for AMD card?

Not that I'm aware off. There was a hybrid way a few years ago but no idea of that is still a thing maintained. I've never tried it but google might be able to answer that.

Edit:after a quick google the support has apparently ended and it's not being developed anymore. Older drivers might work, but then you are dealing with a whole other boat.

PhysX runs fine on the CPU with an AMD card. It is slower than having it in hardware, but it's still fast enough to keep the framerates up. I remember when the last Batman game came out, and AMD players had no problem with all the PhysX code that was in that. And I am not talking about the one that came out a couple of months ago that ran horribly on all video cards from all companies.

Ok how can i run Physx on my CPu?

Ok so i researched some and you can not run any Advances Phys settings on your CPU because NVIDIA locks it no matter what and the only way around it is if you buy an NVIDIA card. You can run some NVIDIA game works on your CPU but not the Advanced ones from what NVIDIA says.

Install the game, and play it. It just happens automatically.

Nothing is locked out. Even with the Gameworks program that Nvidia uses, while they refuse to optimize the code for AMD, it will still work on AMD cards, and work well. It just sometimes takes AMD a few days or a week to get the settings worked out and tested, and then they put the update out.

There are a grand total of zero games on the market that AMD cannot run. Same thing for Nvidia.

If you listen to some of these people, you would think AMD was out of the game because of what Nvidia has done. AMD was close to being out of the game, but it was because the former AMD CEO gave up on trying to compete, and failed to update the drivers and hardware properly during his time at the helm. They now have an engineer again at the helm of AMD, and she is working very hard to get AMD back into competition with both Nvidia and Intel.

That why are the NVIDIA Game work options locked out for AMD cards? NVIDIA says you are not allowed to use those settings not because AMD can not run it but because NVIDIA owns the rights to it so AMD can not use them. Search it up and research it. No AMD card on earth can run the NVIDIA settings on Batman Arkham knight and other games as well. Have you even played any of these games? I do not think you unders stand what i am saying. NVIDIA has a lock on their Game work settings to where NO AMD CARD can run it no matter what. Not because AMD has problems running it no, but because it is LOCKED.

They are not locked out. You may have heard that AMD also has the same technologies. Hairworks is very similar to TressHair. The big difference is that AMD went to the trouble to make sure that TressHair worked just as well on an Nvidia GPU as it does on an AMD GPU. And it actually run 12% faster on Nvidia GPU's than HairWorks does. But then Nvidia creates HairWorks and only optimized it for Maxwell GPU's. I have a GTX 770. It is not even optimized for the 700 series at all.

Anyways, just over a week after the last big game with hair came out, AMD put up optimizations for that game, and it runs quite well on AMD hardware now.

you keep repeating that AMD is locked out. AMD is not locked out of anything, and never has been. As I have said before, I have owned many cards from both companies. Neither company rules this roost. Next year, both companies will have new cards on the market, and it is going to be a real turkey shoot out there. I suspect AMD will win some, and that Nvidia will win some. And then both companies will make adjustments, and try to compete at their previous weak spots, and the battles will continue for a year, and then both companies will release even newer hardware, and that battles will start all over...

It will be fun for us.

Just remember, nobody has a lock on anything. No game company wants their game to only play on one companies hardware. They would lose sales if that were to happen. So even when they work with Nvidia or AMD on a title, they still want everyone to be able to buy and play their game. That is how they make money.

Omg..........wow just wow. you have no idea what i am talking about so i am just going to leave this image here. NO AMD card i repeat NO AMD card is allowed to run those settings only because it is not an NVIDIA card adn not an AMD card. When i contacted NVIDIA they said it must be an NVIDIA card to be able to run those settings as it is owned by NVIDIA due to their partnership with the game. And many other games are like this as well. I plugged my friends GTX 970 up to my PC and they became unlocked, i put my 290 back in they are locked, i put my lil brothers 750ti in they unlock, i put my old R9 270x in they lock again. See what i am saying?

Also AMD is always 5 steps behind NVIDIA no matter what and always has. Th eonly reason AMD is alive is due to console sale killing gaming PC sales. All AMD does is rename their cards and maybe once every 10 years come out with a new GPU that is 90% the same as the past GPU line if not worse.

Benchmarks? Which benchmarks? Or are you referring to ONE benchmark?

True, just about any game will run on either company's hardware. But what Ferrariassassin is getting at is that AMD users sometimes don't get all the eye candy. Myself, I've been playing the Witcher 3 on AMD and NVidia hardware, and am happy either way. Hairworks is a hog on either company's hardware and doesn't add much value for me, so I just leave it off.

Early DirectX 12 benchmarks are very promising for AMD, but it's with a game that was a Mantle project to begin with. Only time will tell.

So as I said a long time ago, IF those nvidia features are important to YOU, you want to go Nvidia. I personally felt like they were and went Nvidia and can't think going back to AMD. So can you make it work, I think the answer is NO. If you want Nvidia only things, sell your 290 to some bitcoin mining champ and buy an nvidia card for gaming.

ok thanks. I am ordering the EVGA GTX 980 Ti hydro this month :) With 2 Noctua NF-F12 fans for the Radiator :) But why cant i unlock these settings on Arkham knight? I mean you can unlock the game to play 60FPS but you cant unlock these graphical settings even though i can easily run it with my R9 290 it makes no sense why no modders have found out how to unlock it.
