Hello everyone,

Just go my first build, with a Palit Geforce GTX 780 Super Jetstream and a i5 4670K at 4.2Ghz so everything runs smoothly at highest settings.

I only got my dads old 1280x1024 4:3 display...

I was planning to get the BenQ XL2720Z because of the 1ms response time and the 144hz refresh rate (if you know any other similar good displays please feel free to name them).

But then I saw the XL2720'G' is coming out soon allong with some other g-sync displays but will this really make a difference for my because I haven't expierenced and screen tearing yet...

And I'm guessing the G screen will cost around 200 euros(netherlands) more just like any other g-sync display.

So to make a long story short is the g-sync really worht my build?

Correct. I currently have a VG248QE and don’t plan on installing G-sync until the prices drop, or like you said more demanding games come out that my PC can't run at around 100 fps. But I will most likely buy a second GPU and two more monitors before I install G-sync.

G-sync is an awesome feature, but I think it is still priced a little high. BenQ makes great monitors but they tend to cost a bit more, take a look at the ASUS VG248QE, it is a 144hz monitor that is G-sync compatible, down the road when the price (currently $200) drops you can get a DIY G-sync kit and install it yourself.

Here is the VG248QE;

Here is the 27” version, I don’t know if this one is compatible with G-sync though;

Edit: G-sync does more than eliminate screen tearing. it matches your monitors refresh rate you the FPS your system is pushing out, eliminating screen tearing and ghosting, with little to no input lag. Vsync also eliminates screen tearing, but by locking your system to 60fps, so you are going to get drops and shutters, it also increases your monitors input lat a good amount, so allot of people just deal with the screen tearing and run with vsync off.

I think g-sync will be more beneficial for lower end gaming machines, but I'm not sure. I have ASUS VG248QE, which is 144hz without g-sync, and I don't see any noticeable screen tearing even when playing high paced fps games.

Screen tearing is pretty common @ 60hz so I feel g-sync would be more helpful for those displays... but all of the g-sync monitors being released are 120+hz.

Also, I highly doubt the XL2720G will be 200 euros. Isn't the Z version already significantly more expensive then that??

From what I could find the XL2720Z is 449.00 Euros - $622 USD. Please forgive me if my math is incorrect.

@ChrisR83

yes the VG248QE does look like a good alternative but then I would be dropping 3 inches back but thats not really a problem.

And if I understand you correctly when i turn v-sync on it my fps wil stay at 60? and without v-sync it just as high the gpu can handle?

@Kekoh

I thought that too and since my system is not really low end.

And i said will be 200 euros more above the normal price and for reference the benq xl2720z is 440 euros here chrisr83 was correct and the asus vg248qe is 300 euro so around 420 dollar so yes the price is a big difference the only thing im dropping is 3 inch.

I see.

There is also a 27" version of that ASUS monitor. It's the VG278HE.

haha thanks guys i will look into it.

final question:

When will the g-sync monitors be released you think?
Because i really really really hate playing at my 4:3 screen i went from my 16:9 laptop to this screen and it just break my hearth lol

because next week i could buy the asus or benq monitor but i dont think i can wait 3 months for the g-sync versions...

the only option woud be buying the asus and upgrading it with the g-sync kit right for short term?

Yeah with Vsync on you are locked at 60fps, to match the refresh rate for most monitors on the market. If you turn it off your system will produce more than 60fps but your monitor is still only going to refresh at 60hz, that is why you get screen tearing, your GPU is producing more images then the monitor can display, so you will get partial images loading, a.k.a. screen tearing. I could post you some youtube links that can explain it better but I am at work and youtube is blocked =(

ah yes the link would be helpfull post it when you can i can wait ;)
but when i buy for example the benqxl2720z it can refresh to 144hz so then it wont have the problem like 60hz monitors right?

You can buy the VG248QE with G-sync already installed from a few vendor right now. Here is the list.

If there is screen tearing (big if) it is going to be so minimal/fast you will probably not even see it, since your monitor is going to be refreshing (144 images per second) the images more than twice as many times per second.

I know the link thanks but every vendor says pre order or out of stock and i dont like the idea of importing it

so then I dont really need the g-sync yet right? only for the more demanding games in the future?
