When i run any game it pretty much crashes, freezes, artifacts etc. however I can browse the internet and basically keep the computer on 24/7 aside from that, no other graphics card options until im back home in about a week. its been a long time since i've looked at computer issues and stuff, can the problem be in any other component of the computer? CPU, ram etc?

Those "artifacts" might be a sign of a faulty GPU, most probably a VRAM issue. Which GPU is it? Which PSU are you using ? Have you overclocked the GPU ?

Has this problem always been there, or, did you upgrade something?
What is the make/model of your graphics card and psu?
What is your cpu?
What is your case and cooling setup?

When you game, three things change.
  1. There is a higher demand on the graphics card so if the card is weak or defective it can cause problems,
  2. in a similar vein, a graphics card running hard will demand much more power.
If you have a weak or faulty psu, you can get all sorts of strange problems.
3. Under load, a pc will get much hotter and can crash if thermal limits are breached.
