Is it necessary to have DDR4 RAM with Intel CPUs?

Hey guys. I have an AMD FX 9370 and a GTX 1070 and I'm planning on upgrading to a 7700k. Do I need to upgrade my ram to ddr4 or ddr3 works well with intel? Also I will be getting asus z270a which is a ddr4 motherboard so will it work? Thanks in advance.

ddr4 board means it only works with ddr4 ram. so you will need new ram for the intel build. a new amd build would mean the same as well since Ryzen also uses ddr4.

ram slots are only compatible with the type it was designed for. sell the old stuff as a package and recoup some of the upgrade costs. except for the 1070 of course. that'll work fine with the new cpu/mobo
