Is it necessary to install software on Toshiba 3 tb external drive

Do I have to install the software that comes with this external drive? Can I instead set my backup schedule and preferences from the Control Panel as usual? Also, I have the smaller Toshiba 465 GB external drives and I usually just save my files to them rather than on my C drive. Can I do the same with this larger external drive?

You can use what ever software you want. I most of the time, format those external drives and then use what i want getting rid of all that extra stuff.
