I have 2 corsair vengeance lpx 8gb sticks running at 2400mhz and I'm using 5gbs of memory or more just idling. I can't find what's causing this in the task manager, however it may be a multitude of things.

use Resource Monitor instead for details. using memory at idle is nothing to worry about and depends on all the things you have running. I'm at idle now with 16GB total and I have less than half less. unused memory is a complete waste anyway. 5GB is nothing.

Alright I'll try that, thanks for the tip!

Nothing to worry about as Mandark said. Only have to think of a solution, i.e. increase RAM if your real world use scenario dictates so.

Having a browser open with a few tabs would equal a few GB of RAM as modern browsers are all kind of RAM hogs.
