Is it OK install windows 7 64bit with 3 GB ram?
my processor is e6300.
9800gt 512 ram
3 gb ddr2.

Unless you were useing a 32 bit Win-7 the amount of ram wouldn't matter.


( stick with 2gb of ram or more for best results.)

Are you running 2x1GB and 2x512MB for your RAM - you'll lose dual-channel operation if you're not.

Not so much of an issue, but you'll get a bit of a performance boost if you stick with dual-channel (i.e. matched pairs of DIMMs).

W7 will run fine though on 3GB, but it could be worth tweaking your RAM while DDR2 is still available and not too expensive.

You'll be fine. Windows 7 x64 has no issues running on my system.

Geforce 7900 GS

64 bit means it CAN use 4GB+, not that it MUST use 4GB.

yes but 4GB(2x2GB) in dual configuration is better.
with only 3GB and upgrading to 4GB then I'd stay with 32-bit OS.
going 4GB or more then I'd move to 64-bit.
nevermind the 32-bit memory allocation/limitation..

Dual-channel used to be reliant on matched pairs of RAM, and as far as I know motherboards for the Pentium E6300 still do.

I know that multi-channel RAM operation isn't as strict as it used to be when it first came out (i.e. matching RAM speed and latencies are enough), but I wasn't aware that Intel chipsets allowed dual-channel operation with unmatched DIMMs.


Regardless, it's all a bit off-topic between malmental and I anyway - the point is 3GB RAM is perfectly fine for Windows 7.
