Is it okay to drop intel processor into socket from a small distance?

I will be installing a processor for the first time and since Intel sockets have an elevated boundary the fingers can't go all the way so it okay to drop the processor into the the socket where the fingers stop
ALSO can the cpu be inserted at an angle like one side first just like closing a lid?

Thats exactly how I do it.
Lay one side down properly first (make sure not to hit the pins in the socket) and get the rest as close to installed as possible, then leave it with a little drop in.

It's the two notches up with the docket then drop it the last 2-3mm
Remember then sit on top of the pins in the socket so they don't sit very far down inside
