Hi Guys,

I just recently built my gaming pc rig and I will be going back to uni ina couple of months so I cannot exact take the pc with me. So is it alright if I left without use for about 9 months. I will be unplugging it and putting back in the pc case box. Please let me know if it is alright and any other things I need to do.

Thank you.

If storing it for @ 9 months, throwing in a couple of those silica gel packets in the bottom that you find in electronics boxes, shoe boxes, leather purses etc wouldn't be a bad idea. Also cover it with a trash bag to try and keep out residual moisture and the odd bug or 3000 that'd want to make the pc it's home.
Alright should i put the silica gel inside the case or inside the case box.

It may happen that the on-board mounted|clipped-in cmos-battery will have drained to near-zero, so your system will possibly greet you with a BWWWEEEPP before arguing with you that it is completely lost and really doesn't know if its 1980, or 1976 or 2000 or from-a-time-where-computers-were-ideas-in-animals-naming-themselves-humans-which-do-not-exist ... , yet.

Asides that, you will be perfectly fine if you do as you have been told:

  • dis-connect
  • dust-out
  • trash-bag

+ bonus-mission: implant silica-gel-packs

... when you will be back (after 9 month) it will greet you happily and curious and totally unknowingly, like any .. first .. born.

Have fun!

Hope it helps? Hmmm ... Thanks for reading.

Not necessary, just wanted to warn you because its often forgotten and people start to panic when they revive | spawn their dream-machine.

The battery will be loaded once you use the PC or it at least is connected again. The battery lasts without any probs for minimum 5 years, it just looses power over time if not refreshed steadily.

So no worries, everything will be fine, you just may wonder why you have to teach that dumb piece the correct time manually via BIOS/FirmWare or by just connecting to the internet and let it automatically update via NTP in the background.

You are good to go, have fun!
