[SOLVED] Is it possible for a HDD to have more capacity than a motherboard can support? If so how will I know?

I'm building myself a custom PC and I'm curious if my HDD could end up having too much capacity for my motherboard to handle. If it has too much for my motherboard will it be negatively effected?

Anything you build and buy today will support any size drive you can buy today.
Up to and including an 18TB.

But don't use an 18TB for your OS or only drive. That's just silly.

Years ago it was an issue https://www.easeus.com/partition-master/mbr-vs-gpt.html#part3
MBR only supported 2 terabyte drives. Anything recent is GPT. And if you get a choice how to format a drive, always choose GPT.
You are only limited by the number of SATA and m.2 connections on a mobo. Even then theres PCI-E cards that can expand storage. Raid cards, NVME cards etc. Add to that USB drives. It starts to sound like we are obsessed with storing data...

No it won't affect anything except how much of the drive you can use. The way to make sure you can use the entire drive is to make sure you're using GPT partitioning on the drive as previously mentioned.

Right.
The issue might come in if you have one and only one drive, very large...Then, for whatever reason, you need to reinstall WIndows.
ALL the data on it then becomes a pain to manage.
