Is it possible for wifi admin to block someone by other than his device's mac address

My laptop has been blocked from university's wifi recently because of many download, and when i changed my mac address it worked and i can continue my download. then my laptop is blocked the second time but when i changed the mac address its not working the second time. My question is: Is it possible for wifi admin to block someone's pc by other than mac address? Thanks very much for the answer
