Is it possible to achieve 120hz refresh rate with this setup?

Hello.

I'm using a UHD 4K TV as the monitor to my PC. I'm mainly using it to play games and edit multimedia content.

Relevant Setup:-

TV: Samsung UA65KS9000W (Supreme MR 200)
Graphics Card: ASUS STRIX GEFORCE GTX 1080
Motherboard: ASUS ROG HERO VIII ALPHA
Connection: HDMI v2.0 (from GPU to TV)

I don't know much about this Motion Rate thing, but from Google I was able to find that all Samsung UHDTV within this Series 9 are suppose to have 120hz refresh rate (though they call it Motion Rate as it combines with some other display functions).

However when I try to adjust refresh rate (using Nvidia display settings) I'm unable to select anything higher than 60hz, sometimes it says 59hz but I'm assuming that's the same thing. If I set a custom refresh rate of 120hz then the screen blacks out (PC still on) and after a few seconds it would show the "Display not detected" message as if nothing was connected to that particular HDMI port.

So is it impossible for me to achieve anything above 60hz refresh rate using the hardware I have now?

Is the TV actually auto scaling it to an equivalent of 120hz but it only display 60hz in settings due to this Motion Rate thing?

Is there anything I can do connection wise (without buying a new TV or Computer) to achieve better refresh rate?

I just feel like I'm missing out since the GPU can have excellent FPS output and the TV itself is also an excellent TV, but together the low refresh rate is capping the display performance.

Please help and note that I'm not super versed in tech so please ELI5.

Thank you.

Currently for 4k resolution, you are restricted to 60Hz at best by DisplayPort, Hdmi 2.0 etc. That 120Hz is really 60Hz that's bumped up by the TV itself, basically upscaling, not any input. Trying to get it to work on a 60Hz gpu is just going to lead to inconsistencies, basically tearing and stuttering. To even get the fps needed to close in on 120Hz will require 1080 sli in most games
