Hey there

I am wondering how come I do not see the cases for the laptops available just like cases for desktops. I would like to build one. I am sure there is a way to buy used old lap top and take insides out but then it would not fin the parts in it... There got to be some way. Any ideas? Thank you.

Laptop cases are specifically molded for hardware that the manufacturer wants to install inside - even between model numbers of a manufacturer, they are different. So to build a custom laptop, you would still be limited to a specific case for certain components. Typically, the options for laptops are a couple of CPU options, RAM upgrades, HDD upgrade, SSD upgrade and possibly an optical drive upgrade.

If you are looking for flexibility - the desktop case is the only way to go.

Cases and motherboards for laptops are specially designed for each other, there are no standard sizes and layouts like there is for desktops. You can buy barebones laptop. They come with a lcd, case and motherboard(sometimes other parts) and you have to buy a cpu, ram, hdd, etc. However this was very rarely cost effective when you could usually just buy a prebuilt laptop for the same price(or less) and get a better warranty aswell so they aren't all that popular and are getting hard to find.
