Hello,
Recently my really old (about 4 years) hdd started freezing my pc and windows showed up "Windows detected hard disk problem" advising me to back up my files and stop using my pc until I fix the problem. I can still turn on the pc although it takes a bit longer and work on it for a few minutes but after that it freezes again. I did manage to perform a quick AdwCleaner scan and nothing showed up. So is it possible to transfer or clone all my files to my new ssd somehow?

of course, as long as you can boot from it.
i give you a step-by=step guide, or refer you here: http://www.howtogeek.com/199068/how-to-upgrade-your-existing-hard-drive-in-under-an-hour/
make sure to always backup your important files somewhere else
also, did you try to defragment the hdd? because i have an even older drive that works just fine even today

Thank you for the quick response! I can boot from it but like I said it freezes after a few minutes of use. The article mentions cloning software but I guess it takes awhile to clone everything wouldnt it freeze with the pc half way through and possibly even mess up the new ssd?

i'm not sure.
personally i would just copy my files to another place, then do a clean install if windows and then transfer back the files.
or, you could mount a windows iso file onto a flash drive and then "repair" your os?

Well that kinda sucks I dont really have 500gb+ worth of storage to put all my files on I'd love to use the cloning software but I'm afraid it would damage the new ssd while the pc freezes again. Thanks for your help anyway
