is it possible to connect a gtx 1080 in a laptop using an exp egpu

is it really possible to make a gtx 1080 work in a laptop with an exp (egpu), i would like to do that to my laptop, i buyed my laptop in the year 2014, sys req are i5 4th gen, 11 gb ram, 1 tb hard disk, Windows 8.1 please send an answer soon as possible

what laptop is it? if it is not thunderbolt 3 capable, or if it does not have a good CPU, then there is no point as the 1080 will be severely bottlenecked.
a 4th gen i5 could be be a sad dual core, or a great quad core. or practically anything.
