So I want to have 2 phonelines at my home (don't ask why I don't really want to explain), is it possible? The phone lines will be used for internet connections from different internet providers.

Solution

Correct. If you had 2 phone lines coming into your house you could have 2 separate 56k modem connections.
But as they mentioned above a single cable or even dsl connection would be many 100s of times faster than 56k.

So if I have 2 phonelines I can basically have 2 internet connections? Just want to clarify because apparently Telstra said you couldn't have 2 phonelines at one addess.

Every modern home is wired for 3 lines, and older places are wired for 2 lines.

Almost nobody uses modems anymore, especially not over phone lines. Most of us get internet over the cable TV network, and a few people get it from AT&T U-Verse which is still that kludgy old (ancient) DSL copper network they refuse to upgrade. Cable is the most reliable way to get internet in most locations.

Yes. Cable is on its own wiring. That is how we all get Cable TV. Even the slowest cable packages are miles faster than any phone line.

I know the slowest cable service here is 1MB/sec. Try that on a phone line with a dialup modem... I ran dialup modems for years before the internet arrived where I lived. Good old US Robotics modems. I also ran a BBS off of them. It is amazing to see that US robotics modems still exist today. Last I used one was about 1996.
