It depends. What its the model of your Ubee cable modem? From your question I presume it has a WiFi and a router built in, is this correct? If so, then the best way to improve WiFi is to use an wired access point (or router with the "routing" functions turned off) at some distance from the Ubee. Secondarily, you could turn off the Ubee WiFi and use an access point at the same location.
