can any one tell me that is it possible to install win xp on newly purchased win7 laptop some people say it is not possible to so that. i want to erase win7 permanently from the HD and to install win xp any ideas.... :sarcastic:

Yes, of course its possible. You obviously need a copy of XP to install. It doesn't hurt to backup your hard drive in case something goes wrong.

The problem most people seem to have with installing XP on newer laptops/computers seems to be related to the systems use of AHCI by default.

If you have trouble with the install, check the bios for a ACHI/IDE toggle and set it to IDE. Its not a bad idea to find an XP disk with Service Pack 3 also.

You will also need to dig up the XP drivers. First, try the laptops support site. If not there, you need to get the drivers from the chipset manufacturer directly.

What is the exact model of laptop we are talking about?

You cannot uninstall Windows 7, but you can install a previous version of Windows to replace Windows 7. As long as your laptop has XP drivers available (which may not be the case if it is a new laptop) and you have a full retail version of Windows XP it is possible. It will also require a custom installation meaning your computer will be wiped in the process, so it is vital that you back up anything you wish to keep to an external hard drive before beginning.

Hope this helps!

Hello Durrani,

Check out the Windows 7 Compatibility site: (There you will find out about hardware and software compatibilty.)
http://www.microsoft.com/windows/compatibility/en-us/default.aspx
There is a pulldown from which you can choose "hardware" and "software".
There are also some great articles, instructional videos and such to help with your Windows 7 at our Springboard site:
http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/windows/default.aspx
In any event a lot of the times, Vista drivers will work in lieu of Windows 7 drivers, however, it's not 100%!
As stated previously, it's best to have the Windows 7 certified drivers installed.
Microsoft does have an official Windows 7 Support Forum located here http://tinyurl.com/9fhdl5 . It is supported by product specialists as well as engineers and support teams. You may want to check the threads available there for additional assitance and support.

You're backwards windows7guy, he already has 7, but wants to go to XP

OP: yes, you can go from 7 to xp, just check your laptop manufactorer's website for xp drivers (they most likely have them). Then just buy a copy of xp and install.

As long as XP drivers are available for the laptop you can. After you insert and boot from your XP disk you will have the option to format your HDD thus ridding you of Win7. If you perhaps posted what kind of laptop it is (Brand/Model), we could let you know if it'll run.

It will run on any laptop. There are XP drivers for every chipset.

Simple Answer is yes, Question is , Why do you want to go back to XP when you have Windows 7?

Personally, there is nothing left in XP that anyone should go back for, Lets drop legacy and move forward, its 2010 already!!!

But if you wish, visit laptop manufacturers site, download drivers (only lan driver really as rest you can get once Xp installed and online hence lan driver needed) Format HDD to ""UNINSTALL"" windows 7 and install XP.

have fun with the blue and green and silver themes!

XP Mode only available in Certain Windows Licenses and using certain CPU's with VT enabled, not the best solution, but definitely worth a look!"

Plus then you have two Systems to look after Av, Patches and the space on laptop they take!

Also only program I have not enabled to make work using compatibility mode still uses 16bit instructions and has not worked since x64 has been released in a MS os with XP x64, but it does work on x32 Windows 7, Ive changed that software to a better supported product

( Oh and F1 2001 does not display correctly and I cannot for the good of me seem to get my Original Lemmings to work as well, only in emulator can I enjoy all the lemmings goodness)

Find out what chipset the board uses and get the drivers directly from the manufacturer of the chip.
