Question Is it possible to lower native resolution without making the display look stretched out?

i have AOC M2060SW monitor and it supports 1080p resolution but it's only a 19.5' monitor. i am having a bad fps gaming on 1080p so i want to know if there is a way to lower my screen's resolution to 1600x900 without the ugly look, thanks!

You could make it so that it appears as a smaller image surrounded by black bars if you go into your graphics driver settings and set display scaling to "centered" or something like than rather than "stretch" or "span" or similar.
