Is it possible to overclock a non-k cpu?

so i bought my Gaming pc a few months ago and i didnt know whats the difference between a k cpu and a non k so i saw that the non k is cheaper and i bought i7 4790 3.6GHz.
Specs:
motherboard-msi 1150 z97
gpu- gtx 980ti reference
cpu fan -coolermaster hyper tx3 evo
psu coolermaster 750w

not on that platform mate sorry. you might get another 100mhz out of it but that would be it...
honestly though that cpu is great as it is and doesnt need o'cn especially if all your doing is playing games.

No. The K series is required for Overclocking. You may be able to get <60Mhz by playing with the base clock at the risk of destabilizing the whole system and corrupting data on your drives.

No but for gaming it wont make any difference, the limiting factor will be the gpu and not that CPU. That CPU will happily max all games on stock speeds

so if im able to get that 100mhz would it harm my cpu? and if i do overclock it would it give me better performance while Gaming?

You would be adding 2.5% to the boosted speed, you would never notice it. That type of overclocking is far more likely to give you stability problems.
