Is it possible to play PS3 on a LCD monitor??

Is it possible to play PS3 on a LCD monitor because my I just got my PS3 the other day and play it on my old TV and the graphics are awful the text are unreadable and it hurts my eyes. I don't have enough money to buy a HDTV so I thought of using my PC's LCD monitor. It's brand is Hanns G HK162 with 1366x768 resolution. Is it possible to play PS3 in it? Will I encounter any problems? Does the graphics will improve?

Does your LCD monitor have an HDMI input? If you are using the standard analog connections (S-video, composite, component), the monitor does not have the inputs for those, only VGA and DVI. However, if it has a DVI input you may be able to get an adaptor that takes the PS3's HDMI to a DVI adaptor to its input on the monitor (http://www.amazon.com/BlueRigger-Speed-Adapter-Cable-Meters/dp/B004S4R5CK/ref=sr_1_4?s=electronics&ie=UTF8&qid=1415348692&sr=1-4&keywords=dvi+to+hdmi+adapter). Sadly though, the PS3's HDMI output is encrypted via HDCP and your monitor through its DVI input does not comply with such protection.

Keep in mind for option B that only the video signals are sent through VGA/DVI, as they do not carry audio to you monitor. You would need to hook up the systems analog audio to a speaker system, or if your monitor has audio inputs (headphone jack) you would need to get another adaptor that takes the red and white L//R into a headphone jack input.

As for graphics, if you send s-video to the VGA/DVI converter, it would look worse that it was on your old TV (whatever it was). If you send component through the box in mind though that if you use component on the PS3 @ 1080p and the box is not the upconverting type that adjusts the signal to your monitors max resolution, you need to set the PS3's output to 720p to get it to display. Under the component feed, video quality would be pretty good but not to the level of HDMI on a HDTV.

BTW, if you only have the standard cables that came with the unit which would be yellow (for video), white and red (for audio), you would need to upgrade to component or better if you use the box that has the green, red, blue inputs. Cables are not very expensive, and PS2 component cables (which have the same connector as the PS3) would be cheaper and deliver the same quality as a specialized PS3 cable.

Yes you can, I did the same with my old monitor. You just need a HDMI-DVI cable. Or if you doesnt have DVI input then you'll need HDMI-VGA cable. You can get them for around 3-5$ each. The safer bet is to buy an adapter (~12-15$), then you just plug the hdmi cable into the PS3 then into the adapter and then use a standard vga cable from the adapter to your monitor.

Do note that this will NOT give you audio, so after starting up your console you'll have to set the audio on to the RGB channel. This means you will also need a converter RGB to 3,5Jack preferably so you will be able to plug your headsets in, or just get a wireless bluethooth headset and you are done. I did this back in 2008, it required a total of 3 converters, but it worked without a problem.

But doesn't the PS3 have HDCP protection through HDMI, and HDMI to DVI cant support the method?

I heard that HDMI-VGA is like that too, unless you can get one that converts the signal to VGA compliant.

this has been asked weeks ago, i think he/she already got their answer somewhere else, but if you have an HDMI port with your LCD monitor the quality will be crisp

HDMI - DVI through cable will work only if your monitor is HDCP, but if you buy a converter you will have no problem.
