I have 1x8gb DDR4 from my last pc. I ordered new parts and was wondering if I can put the old stick with the new ones. The old stick is Corsair vengeance RGB 3000MHz and the new ones are Corsair Vengeance LED 3200MHz. The new kit is 2x8gb and the new mobo is Msi Z270 Gaming Pro Carbon. Timing on new sticks are CL16 (16-18-18-36) and the old stick has same timings. Is it possible and if it is then what DIMM slots do I use? Thanks.

Solution
It is possible but not advisable. The mobo will slow all RAM down to the speed of the slowest stick. It will also cause all the RAM to run in single channel mode which is slower than the dual channel you would run in. 2x8GB is more than enough for most applications, adding an additional 8GB is unlikely to provide a benefit.
