Is it possible to use a FreeSync monitor with an Nvidia GPU?

I'm using a 60hz 1080p monitor with my GTX 970 and it just doesn't feel smooth enough. I wanted to buy G-Sync at first but it's more expensive than I thought, at the same time I'm not sure if FreeSync is a valid alternative since I don't know if it's compatible with an Nvidia GPU. Is it not?

I think that Freesync is AMD only, and is the main competitor to G-Sync. You still, however can use a Freesync monitor with any GPU but the extra Freesync features will not work if its not a supported GPU.
