Hello!

I would like to ask your help.
I have an old, but still usable system, but i really need to upgrade my storage and want to buy a new, bigger, and maybe faster SSD.

My mainboard is an Asrock Z68 Extreme 3 Gen 3 and i thought to buy and M2 SSD (GIGABYTE 1TB M. 2 PCIe (GP-GSM2NE3100TNTD)) and an M2 adapter. Could i boot the system from this SSD, or should I use a custom bios? I’ve never used any custom bios, so I’m completely laical in this subject.
Thanks for any help :)

May or may not be helpful....

On a computer mobo of that age you will (obviously) have to use a PCI-e to M.2 adapter. I have utilized such in a variety of Dell Optiplex machines of the 3rd and 4th gen Intel type. Almost without fail the 4th gen just works. 3rd gen can be dependent on BIOS and from time to time will result in a situation where you have to hit a key to get it to boot. Not so much that it doesn't "work", just that extra step. Similar situation utilizing 2nd gen (with a 2600) and have not tried anything older or lesser than the i7 in that case.

If you are only looking at doing SSD, you can likely find a 2.5 that will come close or even match budget devices.

Keep it simple.
Get a 2.5 ssd and connect it to a sata3 port.
Even if you can get the m.2 to function you would find very little difference than if you just went the simple route.
