Is it reasonable to assume the GTX 960 will be less than the GTX 770?

I noticed some reviews the past couple days on the GTX 970 and how it out-preforms the more expensive GTX 780. I am in the 68% of Steam users who have yet to make the move to the GTX 700 series. I've been considering the 770 for it's relative price/performance, but am now waiting on the GTX 960 in hopes that it will perform better than the 770 for the same or less cost. Based on the 970/980 release, is this a reasonable assumption to make, or am I being too optimistic?

If the trend keeps up, it seems reasonable to assume it will cost around $250, and slightly outpace the 770, all with a much lower power usage, and those new 900-series "features". I'd guess they'd bump the VRAM to 3 or 4GB as well. I don't know what your monitor's native resolution is, but if it's greater than 1080p, that extra VRAM may be important.

This is all guess-work, but it would hold up with the pattern. Regardless, the longer into October you wait, the more NVIDIA and AMD should drop prices across the board.
