Is it recommended to install windows 7 on hp envy dv7

Greetings :hello: :hello: :hello:

I was just wondering is it recommended to install windows 7 on hp envy dv7 which comes preinstalled with windows 8.

I couldnt didint any drivers for windows 7 for the hp envy dv7 on the official hp website.

So have anyone tried installing windows 7 on any hp envy dv laptops?

Is it stable or should i stick with windows 8?

It took 2 days on and off but down grading HP envy dv7 from Windows 8 to Windows 7 is possible. I highly sugest you know every component installed on your machine before you attempt the downgrade. Long gone are the days when you can just open the cd/dvd drive and reinstall your new OS. You must first enter the BIO's on the Windows 8 and change the BIOs back to the legacy Bios. (Windows 8 is now UEFI). Once you change this you can boot from the cd again. You will need to go to the manufacturers to get drivers for all of your devices so you may want to gather them all up and put them on a thumb drive. One last thing.....there is an order to how you need to install drivers so make sure you know what that order is. Other than that it should be smooth sailing.

Hopefully this will help those of you trying to configure and load Windows 7 on the HP dv7-7212nr. This is a really beautifully performing laptop for the money. These instructions will result in no "!" or problems in the Device Manager and will have all keyboard functions working as they should - including the f12 Wireless On/Off button and light indicator.

My current configuration consists of the following:

- Windows 7 Pro 64bit

- Stock 7200 RPM 750GB Scorpio Black drive moved to bay 2 (requires $35.00 kit from www.newmodeus.com)

- Intel 240GB SSD installed in first drive bay.

- 16GB Kingston Hyper-X Memory

- 32GB dedicated cache - caching the 750GB Hard Drive

Installation procedure:

First - Update the Bios to the latest version.

Wipe the 750 Drive and delete all partitions. It is already setup as a GPT drive with NTFS File System. I use Paragon's Disk Manager Boot disc for this. Setup your partitions on this drive as you want them. I use two partitions - Drive D for data / Drive E to hold all Temp files (change environmental tables) and all internet temp files.

1. Go into Bios (Escape and then F10 while booting) and turn on Legacy support.

2. Boot from Windows install disc and proceed with installation to your C drive (in my case, the Intel SSD).

3. Reboot - and select Windows Update to download and install all available Windows updates. Keep rebooting and updating until there are no more available. Hard wired network connection advised to speed this up. This could take a couple of hours.

3. After the Windows Updates complete, you can boot and begin installing the HP software packs below (I would have these ready to go - downloaded to a CD).

Re-Boot... and all should be operating. You can then search for upgrades to the drivers if you desire. Just be sure that before you upgrade any of the drivers used above, you run a backup using the restore feature so you can go back if you need to.

This system has been running flawlessly for me... hope it helps you out.
