so I did the rookie move by plugging in old PSU cables into my new PSU. luckily the only parts that got fried were whatever was connected to my SATA cables, so my HDD and the RGB Lights for my air. (the PSU works still)

i have a new HDD and going to install it, would I plug it into a New SATA cable work? as my PSU still works i just don't know if the only bit that doesn't work is the SATA cable slots. If there was a short circuit with my PSU, would none of it work or is it possible for only certain parts not to work?

thank you

The best way to test the cable is to use an ATX power tester, it will test both 12V and 5V pins.

If you don't have the tester, you can use a cooling fan to test the Molex connector, the fan should spin at full speed on 12V and much slower on 5V.
