I just received all the necessary components to build and start using my computer... except the case which as been back ordered. Now, I'm aware that you can run a computer without a case if it's on a non-conductive surface, but can I stress the components and game on it? Will it overheat or something? Or is it safe?

Solution
Keep an eye on the temps. If you can arrange a fan to blow air over the VRMs of the motherboard that would be good.

Download Speedfan to monitor system/HDD temps.

Download RealTemp to monitor the CPU temps if you have an Intel CPU. If you have an AMD CPU, download Core Temp.
This would actually be a good time to test everything while it is out of the case. As far as cooling goes you are going to see better temps outside of the case, so I wouldn't worry about that. Just be careful cause having live parts laying out is a little risky business.
