I was expecting my processor is to arrive tonight so I put the ram I my motherboard and screwed the motherboard into the case. The processor never came so I won't have a processor for a couple days. Is it safe to leave the motherboard screwed into its case without any plugs connected to it? I'm worried about it getting zapped by static electricity. Also, the entire case is painted as are the standoffs that are used to attach the motherboard.

Would it be smart to connect the 24 pin motherboard connector to the power supply, and then plug the power supply into the wall outlet? I'm thinking this might provide a better ground. I'm just worried about static electricity frying it while it sits in there. Thanks !

Solution
You can leave it in and with the 24-pin connected with no problems. Just leave the PSU unplugged from the wall.

If it wasn't ok to do this you'd have to disassemble the computer every time you turned it off.
I think you may have misunderstood. I'm worried that having nothing plugged into the motherboard is an issue since then static electricity in the air would have no where to go. I'm wondering if plugging the motherboard into the power supply, and the power supply into the wall outlet would provide a proper ground. And I'm not saying turn it on, just have it all plugged in

Thanks guys. I probably am overthinking it.

Digitaldoc, even though you unplug your power supply from the outlet, it is still plugged into the motherboard. Doesn't that provide the motherboard better grounding than having nothing plugged into the motherboard.

Also my room is carpeted. Does that change your answers at all? Thank you for the help!

thank you. And just to be clear, you know that there is nothing plugged into the motherboard (except ram sticks) at the moment, right? It's is only mounted to the standoffs on the case using 9 black screws.
