Hello. Originally, I built my computer for gaming, but also wanted to do some rendering. However, when I tried to render the 3d model with roughly 2 million polygons, I got pretty high temps, like, 80 or so.

I have i5 4690K, stock cooler and speed. Is it safe to render with the stock cooler? I want the CPU to last for years, not months. Also, is there any way to use graphics card for rendering as well?

80 degrees of what F or C? Anyways that CPU is rated for 72.72 C, it will auto throttle down to protect itself after that. http://ark.intel.com/products/80811/Intel-Core-i5-4690K-Processor-6M-Cache-up-to-3_90-GHz

The answer is yes but you can run for longer and faster (get the render done sooner) with a 3rd party cooler. The stock cooler is meant for average usage. Rendering pushes the CPU to 100% which is not normal usage.

As for the GPU that depends completely on what software you are using for rendering so check the manual to find out if it has a GPU usage mode or not.

I rendered it a long time ago, and am not sure if it was 80 or 70, or any other. But it was pretty high. My gaming temps are 70. C of course, F is used less and less now for computer usage, isn't that so?
