I have an old i7 6700k that may still work, though I’m not positive. My old system that I used the i7 6700k stopped working after I touched the top of the case.. I got shocked and it immediately stopped working after that. I never fully figured out which component(s) of that system failed, instead just got new parts because I wanted an upgrade at the time anyways and truly believed it was fried. I actually still have an M.2 drive from that system in use in my newer pc, and it works fine.

I have an i7 8700k now so I still have an LGA 1151 socket, would testing my possibly dead 6700k have any bad effects on my system if it is dead/damaged?

i7 6700k and i7 8700k can not be used on same motherboard.
6700k requires 100 or 200 series board. 8700k requires 300 series board.
oh damn ok thank you for saving me there. If I buy a motherboard for the 6700k though, do you think it would be safe to test- like without harming the motherboard or other components attached to it?
