In the Advanced Options under the Boot tab in the msconfig, there is option to check/uncheck maximum memory.

On my computer it is checked by default. I am running Windows 10 64 bit and my computer has 8GB of RAM installed.

Is it safe to uncheck that checkbox?

I have 8GB of RAM installed. Under System it says that only 6.89GB of that 8GB is usable.

My question is why you uncheck that options, remember your safe if your settings is default, you're OS will manage correctly, but if use trials and error because you don't know it, I insist don't do it, it will probably cause permanent failure of your OS or hardware. If you wanted to increase or decrease the shared memory of your computer use the BIOS settings of your computer, go to advance setup.

What is the "shared" memory of my computer? Sharing with what?

Hi kenrick, the shared memory is a shared memory capacity of your video or vga, like for example if you have 2gb and you shared it the 1gb the remaining main memory is only 1gb of your computer. So therefor if you wanted to increase or decrease it use the BIOS settings rather than to use the default which you mention here.

Another thing of what you need is safe, this options you mention is use only to thick if you see that the maximum capacity of your RAM is not exact. You check you RAM capacity through the properties using the My Computer Icon,if you see only in that properties of RAM only 2.00gb but you know that you have maximum of 2048 GB, checkbox it so that during bootup it will use fully the maximum size of your memory.

I am using a laptop and I an integrated GPU. My processor is an Intel Celeron N2930.

Do you mean that the 1.11GB is being used by my integrated GPU? I don't understand.

Ok you said that you have a total capacity of RAM 8GB, now can you right click on the My Computer ICON then find the properties, then check how much the RAM written there. So that we will learn how much the shared memory. Then in advance option you said, compare the size of RAM and the RAM you will see in that properties

Now in your question it is safe to uncheck that option in msconfig advance option, what I could say is that, your computer will suffer because the lesser the minimum of memory it will use during the boot-up process, then probably it will cause failure.

Ok I see it, its check box the maximum memory without a capacity specified, I understand now you can unchecked it safely because it is not use or not specified the actual maximum size of memory. It is use only if you wanted to specified the maximum size so that during boot process it is fully use once its loaded of OS. Neglect the shared memory you have a good condition in integrated GPU.

Should I change anything at all?
